McLean Community Center Calendar of Events for May 2017

 

McLean, Va.The McLean Community Center (MCC) offers the following activities in May. Residents of the Center’s tax district, Small District One A-Dranesville, are eligible for discounts on fees. The Center’s 1234 Ingleside Avenue facility is closed for renovation; the locations and addresses for these activities are included in the descriptions. 

 

Jammin’ Juniors Concert

Peter McCory

Wednesday, May 2, 12:30 p.m. McLean Central Park, 1468 Dolley Madison Blvd., McLean, Va. 22101 Free admission

Peter McCory is the Washington, D.C. area’s “One-Man Band for Kids and Families!” Since 1996, he’s been playing music kids and parents love—lively, upbeat renditions of familiar songs, folk songs, novelty numbers and his own award-winning original music for kids.

 

Old Firehouse 5th and 6th Grader Party

The Glow Party Friday,

May 5, 7-9 p.m. $35/$25 MCC district residents. Advance registration is highly recommended. Old Firehouse Teen Center, 1440 Chain Bridge Rd., McLean, Va. 22101

The Old Firehouse hosts parties for 5th and 6th Graders. These always sold-out, themed and decorated 5th and 6th grader parties include music, dancing, games, free catered food, videos and various attractions. Tickets will not be mailed; staff will check names at the door. A parent/guardian (age 18 or older) must check a child in and out of the Old Firehouse.

 

Summer Class & Event Registration

This summer, the Center is offering a wide variety of classes and camps for infants through senior adults, providing a convenient and affordable continuing education resource for area residents. MCC tax district residents receive a discount on fees, as do seniors age 60 or older for classes that are more than $50.

Wednesday, May 10, 12:30 p.m. McLean Central Park, 1468 Dolley Madison Blvd., McLean, Va. 22101 Free admission An award-winning husband-wife duo, Two of a Kind presents concerts for families and children of all ages, including songs, puppets, movement and stories—all with an emphasis on interaction and participation.

 

Old Firehouse Friday Night Trips

Dave & Buster’s

Friday, May 12, 3:30-10 p.m. $45/$35 MCC district residents Old Firehouse Teen Center, 1440 Chain Bridge Rd., McLean, Va. 22101

Join the Old Firehouse staff at Dave & Buster’s to play games, win prizes and have fun! Dinner and a $20 game card with unlimited arcade game play are included in the fee. Bring additional money for extra game credits as desired.

Absentee voting affidavits and ballots for the 2017 MCC Governing Board Elections must be returned to one of three MCC locations by 5 p.m. to be counted. The three sites are: Administrative Offices, 6631 Old Dominion Dr., McLean, Va. 22101; Class Program/Registration Office, 6645 Old Dominion Dr., McLean, Va. 22101; and The Old Firehouse, 1440 Chain Bridge Rd., McLean, Va. 22101. Bring the family and enjoy McLean’s biggest annual event. This event draws approximately 13,000 patrons throughout the day. Farmer Jason

Wednesday, May 24, 12:30 p.m. McLean Central Park, 1468 Dolley Madison Blvd., McLean, Va. 22101 Free admission Farmer Jason is the brainchild of rock music legend Jason Ringenberg of Jason and the Scorchers. In 2002, he created Farmer Jason to educate and entertain children about farm life and the wonders of nature. The character is based on his own farming background and love of the great outdoors.

 

MCC Governing Board Monthly Meeting
