From John Carlos and Tommie Smith to Colin Kaepernick and LeBron James, brave black athletes have used their fame as a platform for social activism. William Rhoden, former New York Times sports journalist and author of “Forty Million Dollar Slaves: The Rise, Fall, and Redemption of the Black Athlete,” will discuss how those in the sports world fight for social justice.

“Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened” tells the story of “Merrily We Roll Along,” the Stephen Sondheim/Hal Prince musical that opened to enormous fanfare and closed after just 16 performances. Directed by one of the musical’s original cast members, it features interviews with the creators and original cast of the now-classic show as well as rare and never before seen footage from the rehearsal process.

Who can audition: Students between the ages of 10-16 who live in the MCC tax district.

This is a part talk show, part reality show dramatic retelling of a classic story you thought you knew! The dwarves team up to share their own side of Snow White’s story. Rehearsals: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 7-9 p.m., from early February through mid-March 2018.

Performances: Sat. and Sun., March 10-11, and 17-18, at 2 p.m. at the Old Firehouse Center, 1440 Chain Bridge Rd.

Participation Fee: $150.
