For all skill levels. With an emphasis on the process, students will explore and develop their perceptions and ideas through abstract drawing. Starting with black and white media, students will produce a series of drawings transforming images from nature. Then, they will do the reverse—focusing on mark making to discover/uncover individual perceptions of nature. An investigation of color and the development of a visual journal will help students explore ideas and expand their visual vocabularies. Contemporary artists who use the language of abstraction will be introduced, and students will learn to analyze their own and each other’s work in regular class critiques. Instructor: Marise Riddell.
