McLean Community Center Calendar of Events for February 2016

McLean, Va.—The McLean Community Center offers the following activities in February. Residents of the Center’s tax district, Small District One-A Dranesville, are eligible for discounts on fees. Unless otherwise indicated, all activities will be held at the Center, which is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.

Jewelry and Fashion Accessories Show

Saturday, Feb. 6, 11 a.m.–5 p.m.

Admission $5; Children age 12 or younger free. This new boutique event features inspired, on-trend, handcrafted jewelry and independent-label fashion accessories of innovative design. The items in this juried show range from casual to elegant and have an excellent price array. Get ready to shop ’til you drop! When you do, stay for lunch!

Macdonald Fine Arts Scholarship

Application Deadline Friday, Feb. 12, 2016

Each year, the McLean Community Center recognizes the hard work and talent of young performing artists through the James C. Macdonald Performing Arts Scholarship Competition. Following a preliminary audition and a final round of competition, prizes are awarded in each of four categories: Dance, Instrumental Music, Vocal Music and Theatre. High school students who reside or attend school in the McLean tax district (Small District 1A-Dranesville) are eligible to apply.

Puppet Festival

Saturday, Feb. 20, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

$15/$10 MCC district residents

The festival consists of two, 45-minute shows along with puppet making stations. Jim West Puppets will perform “Aesops Fables” at 10:30 a.m. followed by Crabgrass Puppets with “African Adventure Tales” at 11:30 a.m. The stations are self-guided so parents can create puppets with their children. Tickets are required for all participants over the age of 2.

Closing Notice

The McLean Community Center and the Old Firehouse Teen Center will be closed on Monday, Feb. 15, in observance of the Presidents Day holiday.
