Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana Performs "Poema de Andaluca" at The Alden January 28

McLean, VA-New York City's Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana<http://www.flamenco-vivo.org/>, one of the nation's premier flamenco and Spanish dance companies, comes to The Alden at the McLean Community Center (MCC) for a single performance at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28. Tickets are $35 for the general public, $20 for MCC tax district residents. The theatre is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.

Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana's performances uphold the purity and traditions of flamenco and classical Spanish dance while pushing the boundaries of the art form in new directions. The company commissions dramatic works with original choreography and live music, performs cutting edge dance in New York City and tours throughout the United States.

"Poema de Andaluca" is a journey through the cultural richness and traditions of the Andalusian provinces that form the "cradle of flamenco."  Despite their proximity, many stylistic differences exist between the regions of southern Spain. The varied traditions, festivals and rituals of daily life reflect the special character of its people and have made the Andalusian region a wellspring of cultural heritage, not just for dance and song, but for poetry, art and literature. Through the language of flamenco, this special "Poem" pays tribute to the unique land and people of Andaluca.

"This was a show of graceful, sensuous dance, expressing a host of raw human emotions-evocative of loneliness, pride, passion and joy"-The Philadelphia Inquirer
