Asheville, North Carolina, is at its very best in the month of October. The colorful fall leaves and spectacular scenery look like an artist's palette from the rolling rivers to the towering mountains peaks. Asheville is located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The tour group stops for the night at the Martha Washington Inn in Abingdon, Virginia. This luxury Inn with its colonial ambiance and delicious food sets the mood for our upcoming adventures. After having lunch on our own, we will be treated to a production of “The Producers” at the famed Barter Theatre. Dinner that night will be at the hotel.
Monday starts with breakfast and a picturesque drive to Asheville. After a North Carolina barbecue lunch at Buxton Hall, we will meet Ken Richards, our local guide and author. Ken will lead us on a comprehensive tour to introduce us to the various areas and neighborhoods of Asheville. Late in the afternoon, we will check into the AC Hotel that sits right in the middle of historic Asheville. Dinner that night will be at our hotel.
After breakfast on Tuesday, Ken Richards will join us again giving us information on the Biltmore Estate before we begin our tour. The magnificent Biltmore Estate is the crown jewel of Asheville. The mansion was completed in 1895 by the famed Gilded Age architect Richard Morris Hunt for George Vanderbilt. The Biltmore is the largest private home is America. We will tour the house with an audio guide, narrated by the curators of the Biltmore, which will enhance our experience. Lunch will be at the Deerpark Restaurant, which is located on this grand estate. Dinner Tuesday night will be on our own and there are many good restaurants near the hotel from which to choose.
Wednesday begins with breakfast at the hotel and a visit to the River Arts District of Asheville, where we will tour the various working art studios and see a demonstration. Lunch will be in the arts district at the Smoky Park Supper Club which has a unique architectural structure as well as great food. Next is the spectacular vista of the Blue Ridge Parkway with a stop at the visitor’s center where the award-winning film, “The Blue Ridge Parkway: America’s Favorite Journey” will be shown. A must-visit on the parkway is the Folk Art Center operated and owned by the Highland Craft Guild. Dinner will be at Rhubarb, known for its farm-totable, New American fare and whose head chef was nominated for the James Beard Award.
An early start after breakfast on Thursday morning finds us heading back to Virginia with fond memories of Asheville and its history, architecture, fine dining and the not-to-be-forgotten views of this fascinating destination.

Deposit: A $500 deposit is due as soon as possible to reserve preferred rooms.

Arrive at MCC on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 6:45 a.m. Bus departs promptly at 7 a.m. Tour returns to MCC on Thursday, Oct. 24, at approximately 8 p.m.
