Eleven Young Performing Artists Win Awards at The Alden Theatre’s 2017 James C. Macdonald Fine Arts Scholarship Competition Finals 


McLean, Va.—The Alden in McLean has awarded scholarships to eleven local high school students through the 2017 James C. Macdonald Performing Arts Scholarship Competition. The competition began with a preliminary audition in mid-March and culminated in a final competition on stage at The Alden at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 29. Prizes were presented by MCC Governing Board Chair Laurelie B. Wallace and The Alden’s Director of Youth Theatre Programs Danielle Van Hook. A division of the McLean Community Center, The Alden Theatre is housed in the McLean Community Center, which is located at 1234 Ingleside Ave. The building is currently closed for renovation. MCC’s administrative offices are temporarily located at 6631 Old Dominion Dr.

The James C. Macdonald Performing Arts Scholarship Competition encourages artistic achievement and promotes study in the arts by high school students who reside or attend school in the McLean district (Small Tax District 1A, Dranesville). Scholarship prizes of $1,200 are awarded to students placing first in each of four categories: Dance, Instrumental Music, Theatre and Vocal Music. Second-place winners are awarded $800 and third-place winners win $400.
