McLean, Va.—The McLean Community Center (MCC) offers the following activities in October. Residents of the Center’s tax district, Small District One A-Dranesville, are eligible for discounts on fees. The Center’s Ingleside Ave. facility is closed for renovation; the locations and addresses for these activities are included in the descriptions.

The McLean 5K Run is coming back this fall! Hosted by MCC with the support of event sponsors Century 21 New Millennium, Chain Bridge Bank and The Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce, the race features a certified course through the heart of McLean and is designed to appeal to runners of all abilities. Join The Alden and master artist Kofi Dennis for an introduction to djembe drumming skills and improvisation. Included in this class is a chance to put your new skills to the test playing as a group in a community drum circle. This class is designed for children age eight and older and it is recommended that families participate together. Advance registration is required.

Renowned, Israeli-born soloist Matt Haimovitz performs Bach’s moving and spiritual “Suites for Unaccompanied Cello” in a program offering a brilliant musical variation on the concept of “A Moveable Feast.” Haimovitz pairs each of Bach's beloved works with newly commissioned suites by Philip Glass, Du Yun, Vijay Iyer and others. This concert will feature six suites and their accompanying partner works. On Saturday, Oct. 14, Haimovitz will be offering tastes of the “Feast” at various locations around McLean. Haunted Activity

Teens can get in the Halloween spirit and spend a spooky Friday night with the Old Firehouse. Only the brave-hearted are invited on this journey. The night will start with a group dinner beforehand so participants can stay alert for ghosts, zombies and whatever creepy creatures might appear in the night.

Monster Mash Party

The Old Firehouse is hosting a Monster Mash Party for 5th and 6th graders! The party includes music, dancing, games, snacks, video games and more! Costumes are encouraged, but are not required. Tickets will not be mailed; staff will check names at the door. Parents/guardians (age 18 or older) must check children in and out of the party.



The Alden on the Move
“Peter Pan” presented by Dufflebag Theatre

For ages 5+. Since 1992, The “Nearly World-Famous” DuffleBag Theatre has traveled the globe with their original adaptations of fairy tales and classic stories. The troupe’s performance of “Peter Pan” will whisk audience members off to Neverland with only the set, props and costumes they’ll bring in their trunk! If four actors aren’t enough to tell the story, some of McLean’s youngest residents might even get cast in the show.
