McLean Community Center Calendar of Events for August 2017

McLean, Va.—The McLean Community Center (MCC) offers the following activities in August. Residents of the Center’s tax district, Small District One A-Dranesville, are eligible for discounts on fees. The Center’s 1234 Ingleside Ave. facility is closed for renovation; the locations and addresses for these activities are included in the descriptions.

Summer Sundays Concerts in the Park
Big Bang Boom
Sunday, Aug. 6, 5 p.m.

It’s a kids’ takeover! Big Bang Boom’s live show is high-energy, and both parents and children find it hard to stay in their seats! From calling the kids on stage for the “SpongeBob Chorus” to the “Parents vs. Kids Hokey-Pokey Challenge,” Big Bang Boom has made certain that there is no sitting down at their fun and energetic show.

Old Firehouse Teen Center
27th Anniversary Block Party

Come out and celebrate the Old Firehouse Center’s 27 years of serving the Greater McLean community. Activities include live music, air-brushed tattoos, street performances, an Old Firehouse Living History Exhibit, concessions and various amusements. Patrons can enjoy free popcorn, cotton candy and snow cones while they last. Bring a bike to donate to Wheels to Africa, a youth-led nonprofit that collects bikes for children in need throughout Africa. A Bands for Bike concert will be held from 4-8 p.m.

This fall, the Center is offering a wide variety of classes, activities and events for infants through senior adults, providing a convenient and affordable continuing education resource for area residents. MCC tax district residents receive a discount on fees, as do seniors age 60 or older for classes that cost more than $50.

Back-to-School Quote-Along Movie
“Mean Girls” (PG-13)
Wednesday, Aug. 30, 7 p.m.
at the Old Firehouse, 1440 Chain Bridge Rd.
Admission and popcorn are free. Prop bags are $5 each. Supplies are limited.
The Alden begins a series of quote-along movies with a back-to-school viewing of “Mean Girls.” Tina Fey’s 2004 high-school comedy has become an ultra-quotable classic. All ages are welcome, but parental discretion is advised.
