3/25/20 COVID-19 Response Update
At a Special Meeting of the McLean Community Center (MCC) Governing Board today, the Board unanimously voted to cancel all Center-sponsored activities in the months of April and May, including McLean Day 2020. The action came in response to the recommendations of MCC Executive Director George Sachs, who cited the ongoing Centers for Disease Control and Fairfax County Health Department guidelines concerning large gatherings. McLean Day, the center’s largest event, typically draws approximately 10,000 participants.

Absentee voting for the MCC 2020 Governing Board Election, currently underway, will continue through 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13. The McLean Day in-person voting, stipulated in the Center’s Memorandum of Understanding, will be held at MCC, 1234 Ingleside Ave., as scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 16. Questions? Please call the Center at 703-790-0123, TTY: 711.

A Resource for the McLean Community
Want to help others or need help yourself? The Fairfax County Community Covid Aid Project is a charity started at McLean High School to connect volunteers with those in need in our community during this difficult time. The organization runs a database where McLean residents can access services, like grocery shopping and online tutoring, by requesting help from a group of dedicated volunteers. All volunteers are Fairfax County residents, who have signed up through the website, https://www.fairfaxcountycovidaid.org.

Founded in 1982, The McLean Holiday Art & Crafts Festival is a highly anticipated and much-beloved, three-day, indoor, juried show featuring arts and crafts made by approximately 80 regional artisans. These fine, handcrafted arts and crafts works include both established, high-quality, seasoned artisans as well as new artisans exhibiting innovative concepts. The show includes pottery, glass, jewelry, holiday decorations, mixed media, fashion accessories, wood, fine art, artisanal foods, soaps, skincare and more. The newly renovated McLean Community Center provides a delightful venue for the show and is ADA compliant. Visitors can dine onsite at the event café.

This year, show management will be provided by the Northern Virginia Handcrafters Guild (NVHG). Founded in 1972, the NVHG, a 501(c)3 nonprofit community-based organization, is dedicated to helping artists and craftspeople exhibit and sell their work, promoting the development of arts and crafts in the community and supporting arts and crafts educational activities.
