The McLean 5K Run is back this fall! Hosted by the McLean Community Center with the support of sponsors Century 21 New Millennium and the Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce, the race features a USATF certified course through the heart of McLean and is designed to appeal to runners of all abilities. The proceeds of the run benefit the McLean Community Foundation. Recruit a team of coworkers, teammates, fellow runners, neighbors, family members and friends and mark your calendar for Saturday, Oct. 2.

For ages 6+. Join us for a celebration of the great LGBTQ+ people in our lives and the allies who walk with them! Music, games and all of the supplies for creating a unique LGBTQ+ ally shirt will be provided to participants. This event is for family members to participate in together to show their support for the LGBTQ+ community. Free t-shirts will be given to the first 50 people who register.

For ages 14+. The MCC proudly welcomes local faith leaders to discuss of how the different faith communities walk as allies with their LGBTQ+ neighbors and what resources and communities are open to those who identify as LGBTQ+. Fairfax County Interfaith Coordinator, Ramona Carroll will moderate this discussion and Fairfax County leaders will provide opening remarks. Attendees may submit questions ahead of time on the registration form.
Rev. Dr. Rebekah Savage, Unitarian Universalist,
Rev. Dr. Savage began her ministry at UUCR in October 2015, grew up in Bethesda, Maryland, where her family attended the River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation. She attended Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, studying non-Western theology as a Religious Studies major and minoring in Sociology and Women’s Studies. Rev. Savage attended Union Theological Seminary in New York City and, in her second year there, felt called to the ministry. She graduated with a master’s in divinity and Pastoral Theology. She completed Clinical Pastoral Education at a large hospital in Miami, Florida, and her internship at the Boca Raton Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Boca Raton, Florida.
After the events of September 11, 2001, Rev. Savage felt drawn to military chaplaincy. She was ordained a Unitarian Universalist minister in June 2003 and commissioned as an army chaplain in September 2003. Since becoming an army chaplain, Rev. Savage has spent the majority of her career on active duty and completed one overseas tour in Afghanistan. In 2007, she completed a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2014. Rev. Rebekah completed her doctorate of ministry in Military Chaplaincy at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC in May 2020.
Outside of her ministry at UUCR, Rev. Rebekah serves as the co-chair of the UUA Ministerial Fellowship Committee and is active in many collegial support and study groups. You can also find Rev. Rebekah on bike trails, on a yoga mat or at the gym.

The Old Firehouse is transforming the inside of the center into the spookiest, scariest, walk-through experience in McLean. The House of Terror will be divided into two time slots:
• No Scares 5–7 p.m.: Participants can walk through the lighted path and view our actors and actresses with no jumps, scares or fears.
• All Scares 7:30–10 p.m.: The effects are on, the lights are off, and the actors and actresses are out of sight and ready to surprise.
