McLean Community Center camps help children continue to learn and grow in a fun and supportive environment during the summer months. If you are looking for a full-day or half-day solution, for physical activity in the great outdoors or for something more cerebral and skill-building, take a look at the diverse camp offerings inside this brochure (and below). We have something to fit your needs.

Old Firehouse 2022 Summer Camp Trips
For Rising 5th-9th Graders
Registration begins on Monday, Feb. 7, 2022. Spaces fill quickly, so please register as soon as possible to ensure your space.
With the end of the school year quickly approaching, there’s no need to worry about keeping your child active and happy this summer. The Old Firehouse’s Summer Camp has you covered with eight weeks of fantastic trips and memorable experiences. Be sure to sign up early as these weeks sell out fast.
For your convenience, there are three ways you can register:online, by phone or at the Old Firehouse.
Old Firehouse Summer Camp participant contracts should be submitted no later than Friday, June 3, 2022. All other forms and waivers will be sent to parents via email and will also be available at the Old Firehouse prior to the start of camp.
Camp will be held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. On certain trips, the return time will be later, due to the trip location. Trips depart and return to the Old Firehouse Teen Center, 1440 Chain Bridge Rd., McLean, Va., 22101. Campers may want to bring additional money each day for snacks and incidentals.
Please Note: Trips may change due to weather conditions, location availability or other unforeseeable issues. The Old Firehouse will make every effort to ensure replacement trips are as similar as possible to the trip originally planned.

Old Firehouse Summer Camp Refund Policy
- • All withdrawals, refunds and cancellation requests MUST be submitted in writing to registrar@mcleancenter.org.
- • The center will issue a full refund when a camp program is canceled by the center.
- • Requests for withdrawals and/or cancellations received before Friday, April 1, 2022, will receive a full refund.
- • For requests for withdrawals and/or cancellations received after Friday, April 1, 2022, patrons will be charged a $100 processing fee, which will be deducted from the total amount paid.
- • If a replacement can be found to fill the space vacated by the cancellation and/or withdrawal, the $100 processing fee will be refunded to the patron.
- • If a replacement cannot be found, a refund of the processing fee will not be issued.
Chess
Chess CampSilver Knights Enrichment has taught chess to 100,000+ children, including national champions! A great camp for everyone from brand new beginners to tournament players. Activities include learning the rules, openings, tactics, strategy, endgames, playing games and taking outdoor breaks. Bring a snack, drink and lunch. Campers will receive a t-shirt and chess set. Broadway Bound Camp
Your budding Broadway entertainer will learn exciting routines to hit Broadway musicals such as “Aladdin,” “The Lion King,” “Newsies” and “Annie.” Campers will learn age-appropriate songs and dances that are currently playing on Broadway. Each day is filled with an energizing dance warm-up, Broadway routines and acting games and exercises. Camp concludes on Friday with a showcase that is sure to dazzle! Zombie Cheer and Tumbling Camp
Your cheerleader will have the time of her life learning cheers, motions, chants, drills, stretches, jumps and a high-energy cheer dance with pompoms. This fun week also features daily tumbling and focuses on development of strength, coordination and flexibility as well as mastering forward rolls, cartwheels, handstands, bridges, limbers and splits. Popstar Hip-Hop Camp
Here is your chance to interpret movement with feeling, emotions and style. You will learn lyrical, contemporary, hip-hop and jazz, using popular ballads and contemporary music. Trolls Dance Camp
Dancers will have a blast as we embark on a five-day quest with our favorite Troll buddies to save music from the evil Rockers. Fencing: Intro to Olympic Sport - Foil, Sabre and Epee
No previous training needed. Known as the "physical game of chess," Olympic sport fencing provides a tremendous physical and mental workout for students of all ages and athletic abilities. Fencing makes fitness fun! It builds muscle strength, provides greater cardiovascular workouts and improves endurance, coordination and speed. Campers will learn footwork, handwork and strategy using safety-tipped swords, protective jackets, masks and gloves. Instructor: Virginia Academy of Fencing.

NASA Academy of Future Space Explorers
Blast off with the only camp designed and created specifically by NASA engineers. Set your future space explorers on a trajectory from our earth’s atmosphere to the outer reaches of our solar system. Dinosaurs and Ancient Worlds: Underground Explorers

They also study bone fragments, pottery shards, amber deposits and fossils to understand what they can tell us about history! Eureka! The Inventor’s Camp
Children will overcome a series of challenges using basic materials, simple machines, tips from famous inventors and, most important of all, their minds. With a little bit of ingenuity, children will create catapults and forts, construct working light sticks to take home and assemble a set of circuits with batteries and light bulbs.
