Run for A Seat on MCC’s 2024–2025 Governing Board

The McLean Community Center is looking for district residents to serve on its Governing Board. The volunteer board provides oversight to the McLean Community Center through policy guidance, strategic planning and financial stewardship. Board members have a unique opportunity to improve the quality of life for Small District 1A-Dranesville residents.

Openings:
Four adult board seats and two youth board seats. Adult qualification is being 18 years of age or older on May 17, 2024. Youth must be 15-17 years old on May 17, 2024 (McLean Day Carnival Rides and Festival)—that is, born May 18, 2006 to May 17, 2009.

Term of Office (June 2024–May 2025):
Three adults will serve 3-year terms; one adult will serve a one-year unexpired term; youth serve 1-year terms.

Eligibility:
All candidates must be residents of the MCC’s tax district (Small District 1A-Dranesville). One youth candidate from the area served by Langley High School will be elected and one youth candidate from the area served by McLean High School will be elected. Youth candidates need not attend these schools but must run for the seat representing the area where they live.

Candidate Petition:
Each candidate must obtain ten (10) signatures of endorsement from district residents and submit information about his or her candidacy for publication. For a youth candidate, the ten (10) required signatures must be from teens who are 15-17 years old on McLean Day – that is, born May 18, 2006 to May 17, 2009. Candidates may pick up their Candidate Packet in person at MCC during business hours.

Deadline:
Completed Candidate Petitions must be returned to MCC no later than 5 p.m., on Monday, March 11.

Election:

Absentee Voting
Residents of the Center’s tax district (property owners; renters; occupants) may vote for Board members in-person at MCC, or through U.S. Mail by request, beginning Wednesday, March 27, and ending Monday, May 13, at 5 p.m. Residents may request ballots for their household via phone; email or online request through MCC’s website. Adults vote for adult candidates only, and youths vote for youth candidates only.

In-Person Voting
District residents can vote in-person on Friday, May 17, from 4-8 p.m. at the McLean Day T.G.I.F Carnival Rides at Lewinsville Park, 1659 Chain Bridge Rd. and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the McLean Day Festival on Saturday, May 18, also at Lewinsville Park.
