Bassem Youssef Performs at The Alden

Acclaimed Political Comedian Bassem Youssef Performs at The Alden in McLean on June 10

The Alden in McLean is pleased to present Bassem Youssef, the physician-turned-satirist, for a special presentation at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 10. The presentation is part comedy and part reflection of Youssef’s journey holding powerful leaders accountable. Tickets are $35, $25 for McLean Community Center (MCC) district residents. The theater is located inside MCC at 1234 Ingleside Ave.

Egyptian heart surgeon turned world-famous political comedian, Youssef was dubbed the Jon Stewart of the Arab World. He was the creator and host of the first political satire show in the Middle East and the most watched show in the Arab world, with 30 million viewers each week. Throughout its three season, “Al-Bernameg” remained controversial for its hilarious and bold criticism of the ruling powers. During its final season in 2014, the show achieved unprecedented ratings before Youssef announced its termination due to overwhelming political pressures on the show and the airing channels.

In this keynote presentation, Youssef shares his unique life experience navigating one of the most uncertain times in the Middle East. He discusses the dynamics of humor, politics and the search for liberties and freedoms in the Middle East.

MCC Executive Director Daniel Singh said, “MCC is excited to present the legendary Bassem Youssef. His humor and astute analysis help us process the complicated relationships between art, power and politics—which he doles out with his characteristic side-splitting jokes interspersed throughout his commentary. We are thrilled to have Mr. Youssef join us in The Alden.”
