Dedicated Community Servants Sought for 2025-2026 McLean Community Center Governing Board
Petition Packets Will Be Available Tuesday, Feb. 18
McLean, Va. — Adults and teens who reside in Dranesville District 1-A and who are looking for opportunities to serve their community are invited to run for seats on the McLean Community Center’s 2025-2026 Governing Board. The l1-member volunteer board provides oversight to the center through policy guidance, strategic planning and financial stewardship. McLean Community Center (MCC), a special agency of Fairfax County Government whose facilities include the Robert Ames Alden Theatre (“The Alden”) and The Old Firehouse Center (OFC), is located at 1234 Ingleside Ave.
The candidate phase of the 2025 election begins on Tuesday, Feb. 18, the date interested residents can begin to pick up petition packets at MCC. Three adult and two youth board positions are open. To run for election to the board, candidates must reside in Dranesville Small District 1A, a special tax district that supports the center. Candidates are required to obtain the signatures of 10 tax district residents in their respective categories (either adult or youth) to have their names placed on election ballots. Petition packets will be available at MCC starting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
Adult candidates must be at least 18 years of age by the date of the election. Youth candidates must be 15-17 years of age by the date of the election. One youth member will be elected from the McLean High School boundary area, and one will be elected from the Langley High School boundary area. Youth candidates are not required to attend either school, but they must reside in the boundary areas served by those schools respectively, as defined by Fairfax County Public Schools.
Absentee Voting begins at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, and concludes at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 9, which is the deadline for all Absentee Ballots to be received in the ballot box in the MCC lobby. Residents may request absentee ballots for their own household by U.S. mail, email (elections@mcleancenter.org), online form (mcleancenter.org) or phone (703-790-0123, TTY: 711).
After Absentee Voting concludes, residents have two options for in-person voting. On Friday, May 16, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the McLean Day Carnival Rides, and on Saturday, May 17, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the McLean Day festival. Both are held at Lewinsville Park, 1659 Chain Bridge Rd.
The adult candidates who receive the three highest vote counts will serve a three-year term. Youth members who receive the highest vote count will serve a one-year term.
Key Election Dates:
- Tuesday, Feb. 18: Candidate Petition Packets are available for pickup at MCC.
- Monday, March 17: Candidates must return completed packets to MCC in-person by 5 p.m.
- Tuesday, March 25: Candidate Orientation will be held at MCC from 6:30-8 p.m.
- Wednesday, April 2: Absentee Voting begins at 9 a.m. at MCC.
- Saturday, April 19: Candidates Meet & Greet, MCC Spring Parking Lot Sale, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
- Friday, May 9: Absentee Voting ends at 5 p.m.
- Friday, May 16: In-Person Voting held at Friday Night Rides, Lewinsville Park, 4-8 p.m.
