McLean Community Center Calendar of Events for March 2025
McLean, Va. — The McLean Community Center (MCC) offers the following activities in March 2025. Please check the center’s website, mcleancenter.org, for up-to-date information. Residents of the center’s tax district, Small District 1A-Dranesville, are eligible for discounts on fees. All activities are held at the center, located at 1234 Ingleside Ave., McLean, Va. 22101, unless otherwise noted.
MCC Celebrates 50th Anniversary
Community Mural Workshop
Saturday, March 1, 10 a.m.–noon
Join us for a community workshop with mural artist Jeremy Jarvis. Come meet the artist selected for MCC’s 50th anniversary mural commission, learn more about the design and provide feedback for the final mural! Jeremy wants to hear from you about what makes McLean special to make the design unique to our community. Community Paint Days will be held in September to create the community mural on the exterior wall of the Old Firehouse Center in downtown McLean. All ages are welcome, and no artistic experience or skills are necessary.

New Orleans Songbook: A Jazz at Lincoln Center PRESENTS Production

Just in time for Fat Tuesday, Jazz at Lincoln Center (JALC) brings the soul of New Orleans and the spirit of Mardi Gras to this amazing evening, celebrating the composers and inspired songs of the Crescent City, the historic epicenter of jazz. From Jelly Roll Morton and Louis Armstrong to Ellis Marsalis and James Black, New Orleans has long been an apex of innovation and inspiration. With world-class musicians and infectious energy, “New Orleans Songbook” immerses audiences in the captivating and timeless spirit of this vibrant city. Laissez les bons temps rouler!

“Wadjda” (Saudi Arabia; directed by Haifaa Al-Mansour) in Arabic with English subtitles
Thursday, March 6, 1 p.m.
An enterprising Saudi girl signs on for her school’s Koran recitation competition to raise the remaining funds she needs to buy the green bicycle that has captured her interest. This is the first Saudi Arabian film directed by a woman. Rated PG, runtime 98 minutes. Common Sense Media recommended for ages 9 and older. These movies are programmed for adult audiences unless otherwise noted.
Old Firehouse Center Friday Night Trip
Washington Capitals Hockey Game
Friday, March 7, 4-10:30 p.m.
$70/$60 MCC district residents
Due to construction at the Old Firehouse, this trip will depart from and return to MCC, 1234 Ingleside Ave., McLean, Va. 22101
Join us as we cheer on the Washington Capitals for a “W!” As if the game wasn’t exciting enough, each participant will get a free Caps hat. Admission and dinner are included in the fee. Bring additional money for souvenirs and snacks as desired. A signed waiver is required.

Sleep Issues
Thursday, March 13, 7 p.m.
A free discussion series for parents
Led by Facilitators: Melissa Sporn, Ph.D., Amber Syed, M.D. and Laura Gray, Ph.D., we will delve into the causes and consequences of sleep issues and their impact on mental health. This presentation will cover common sleep disorders, the mind-body connection in sleep and evidence-based techniques for improving sleep quality. Attendees will learn practical strategies for managing insomnia, reducing stress before bed and creating healthier sleep habits. This session is ideal for anyone interested in understanding how to achieve restful sleep and support mental wellness.
Old Firehouse 5th & 6th Grader Party
St. Patty’s Party
Friday, March 14, 7-9:30 p.m.
$35/$25 MCC district residents/$10 OFC Members
Old Firehouse 5th-6th Grader parties are themed and decorated accordingly. Free catered food and beverages will be distributed to participants. Parties feature a DJ, open dance floor and a variety of activities. Preregistration is recommended. Parents who wish to volunteer for parties must register their participant first, then submit an email request to oldfirehouse@mcleancenter.org. Volunteer spots are limited.

“Forbidden Broadway”
Sunday, March 16, 2 p.m.
$40/$30 students and seniors/$25 MCC district residents
For ages13+. Broadway talent. Broadway tunes. Off-Broadway humor. This long-running New York institution parodies current plays and musicals and is perfect for Broadway lovers and new audiences alike. “Forbidden Broadway” the one-stop ticket to all the shows and all the nonstop laughs.

Fiesta del Sol Latin American & Caribbean Festival
Saturday, March 22, 5-10 p.m.
Free admission
Fiesta del Sol is back! Taste sumptuous tapas, enjoy great live music and hear the sounds of Latin America and the Caribbean right here in McLean with renowned live bands, top notch chefs, quality artisan exhibitors and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Learn how to dance the salsa, meringue or cumbia from the best dance instructors, free throughout the evening. Free Admission. Drink and food tickets sold onsite. Patrons must be 21 years old or older to purchase or drink alcoholic beverages.
