February ’26 Calendar of Events
The McLean Community Center (MCC) offers a variety of activities, events, classes, and performances every single month at the McLean Community Center building, The Alden Theatre (located at the MCC building), and The Old Firehouse Center in Downtown McLean. Please check the center’s website, mcleancenter.org, for the most current information.
Theatre/Performances/Movies:
The Alden Theatre kicks off its jam-packed February with family-friendly and ASL interpreted “Astronaut vs. Aquanaut” on Saturday, February 7 at 6 p.m. Two acclaimed scientists face off—spacesuit to wetsuit—to decide who’s the ultimate explorer. Join Janet Ivey (“Janet’s Planet”) and Jennifer Swanson (Science Rocks) as they journey from deep oceans to outer space using cutting-edge discoveries, including images from the James Webb Space Telescope.
The Alden Theatre is proud to celebrate Lunar New Year with two performances. “Year of the Red Fire House Lunar New Year Celebration” by Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company is a performance on Wednesday, February 18 at 7 p.m. that intertwines traditional and contemporary dance, and will also include a traditional Dragon and Lion Dance! Honolulu Theatre for Youth will perform “The Great Race: The Story of the Chinese Zodiac” on Saturday, February 28 at 6 p.m. It is a beloved tale about the origin story of how each animal earned a place in the Chinese Zodiac. Tickets are available at mcleancenter.org!
The Alden also presents two Performing Arts showings of “Hyenas” (1992, Wolof with English subtitles) on Wednesday, February 4 at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday, February 12 at 1 p.m. Based on Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s play “The Visit”—which was also the basis of the Broadway musical, “Hyenas” follows a now-rich woman returning to her poor desert hometown to propose a deal to the populace: her fortune, in exchange for the death of the man who years earlier abandoned her and left her with his child. “Hyena’s” is suitable for 18 years and older, and admission is free. On February 19 at 1 p.m., join us at The Alden Theatre for the foreign language film “Spettacolo” (2017, Italian with English subtitles). “Spettacolo” is a portrait of the 50-year-old tradition of turning their lives into a play, where the town’s piazza becomes a stage and every villager from 6 to 90 plays a part…the role of themselves. The film is rated PG, and admission is free.
The Borisevich Duo, Piano and Violin, will make a magical afternoon of chamber music on Sunday, February 22 at 2 p.m. The husband-wife pair is an Alden favorite and attracts larger crowds each year with their sweetly old-world sound and brilliant commentary! Tickets are available at mcleancenter.org.
Community Events:
Do YOU want to make a difference in our community? Adults and teens who reside in the MCC tax district and who are looking for opportunities to serve their community are invited to run for seats on the McLean Community Center’s 2026-2027 Governing Board! The 11-member volunteer board provides oversight to the center through policy guidance, strategic planning and financial stewardship. Four adult seats and two youth seats will be filled through the election. Petition packets will be available to the public on Wednesday, February 18.
