McLean Community Center Calendar of Events for February 2023

The McLean Community Center (MCC) offers the following activities in February 2023. Please check the center’s website, https://mcleancenter.org, for up-to-date information. Residents of the center’s tax district, Small District 1A-Dranesville, are eligible for discounts on fees. The center is located at 1234 Ingleside Ave.

Cahoots NI: “Danny Carmo’s Mathematical Mysteries”

Meet Danny Carmo. All he ever wanted to be was a famous magician. But when he knuckled down to learn all the tricks of the trade, he realized that math was not only essential… it was the SECRET to a whole load of magic. Prepare to be amazed, dazzled and bewildered by Northern Ireland’s leading children’s theater company, Cahoots NI’s mind-blowing show where math, theater and digital technology collide to create a fun and interactive performance. Snack & Paint Night
Friday, Feb. 10, 7-9 p.m.
$10 per person. Preregistration is recommended.
Whether you are a beginner or an expert, love snacks or want to get your hands dirty with some paint, come on down to the Old Firehouse for Snack & Paint Night! Led by a professional art teacher, this activity encourages families to work together to create their own masterpieces while having tons of fun. All materials and snacks are included in the fee. Black History Month Event
Sweet Honey in the Rock®
Saturday, Feb. 11, 7 p.m.
$45/$30 MCC district residents/$35 students and seniors
For all ages. The Grammy-nominated, iconic, women-led, African American vocal ensemble Sweet Honey in the Rock® marks its 50th anniversary with a powerful, three-year celebration that will honor its storied past and set the course for the future of the group. It has been called “one of the most dynamic, versatile and still relevant musical collectives in music today.” The performance will be sign language interpreted. Presented by The Alden

Beau Soir Ensemble

The Beau Soir Ensemble is a flute, viola and harp trio dedicated to the performance of standard and contemporary repertoire spanning a variety of genres. Founded by harpist Michelle Lundy in 2007, the group regularly performs at venues and acclaimed concert series in the Mid-Atlantic region, including the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, Strathmore Mansion and Harman Center for the Arts. McLean Community Center and the Old Firehouse Center will be closed on Monday, Feb. 20, in observance of the George Washington Day holiday. The centers will reopen at regular business hours on Tuesday, Feb. 21. MCC Governing Board

Sweetheart Parent-Child Dance
Friday, Feb. 24, 7-9 p.m.
$20 per participant
For all ages. Children are invited to come to MCC for a fancy “date” with their parent or guardian. Featured activities include a DJ, photo booth, craft projects and light refreshments. Create lasting memories by joining us at MCC’s Sweetheart Dance. Presented by The Alden
Jonathan Rockefeller Productions “Paddington Gets in a Jam”
Saturday, Feb. 25, 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
$30/$20 MCC district residents/$27 students and seniors. $45/$35 VIP Tickets to 1 p.m. show only. VIP includes priority seating and a meet-and-greet following the performance.
Paddington, our favorite accident-prone bear, makes his stage debut in this fun-filled family comedy. Paddington is making his favorite marmalade jam when he runs out of sugar. He heads next door to borrow some from grumpy Mr. Curry, who is preparing for a visit from his great aunt, who is a stickler for tidiness. Paddington volunteers to help Mr. Curry, but, unfortunately, his good intentions end up leading to chaos.
