McLean Community Center Calendar of Events for February 2024

McLean, Va.— The McLean Community Center (MCC) offers the following activities in February 2024. Please check the center’s website, mcleancenter.org, for up-to-date information. Residents of the center’s tax district, Small District 1A-Dranesville, are eligible for discounts on fees. The center is located at 1234 Ingleside Ave.

Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company
Featuring a free Year of the Dragon Festival for Families
Sunday, Feb. 4; Festival: noon-4 p.m.; Performance: 4 p.m. (tickets required)
$30/$25 seniors and students/$20 MCC district residents
The Year of the Dragon is considered one of the most auspicious and significant years in the Chinese zodiac, symbolizing strength, courage and good fortune. To mark this special occasion, The Alden has partnered with the renowned Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company to create a Lunar New Year Festival for families that culminates into a mainstage Dragon Festival performance. The Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company is a renowned professional touring company, founded by the visionary choreographer Nai-Ni Chen, that blends contemporary American and traditional Chinese dance styles. Japan; Directed by Hirokazu Koreeda. Shown in Japanese with English subtitles. In this acclaimed film, a group of people who have recently died find themselves in limbo. Counselors are on hand to help new arrivals pick one memory from their lives to bring with them into eternity. Once the memories are chosen, the staff makes a short film representing each one, and the films make up a collage of thoughtful cinematic moments.

Voices and Songs of the Iconic Animated Series LIVE on Stage
Saturday, Feb. 10, 7 p.m.

Join the leading voice cast of “Animaniacs” for a zany, animany and totally insaney evening! Randy Rogel, the show’s original Emmy-winning composer, and voice talents Rob Paulsen and Maurice LaMarche perform the world-famous songs from the beloved cartoon TV series… backed by video projections from the equally world-famous animations! The live show celebrates the creative inspiration behind the songs with lots of audience interaction and never-before-told behind-the-scenes insider stories shared by the voice actors. Sweetheart Parent-Child Dance
Friday, Feb. 23, 7-9 p.m.
$20 per person
For all ages. Children are invited to come to MCC for a fancy “date” with their parent or guardian. Featured activities included a photo booth, a DJ playing favorite dance tunes, craft projects and light refreshments. Create lasting memories by joining us. Back by popular demand! BNB is a hilarious, high-energy and interactive percussion show that has captivated audiences worldwide! It offers something for everyone in the family—amazing tap dancing, clean comedy, body percussion, beatboxing and more! The show was born from Gareth Server and Matt Livingston’s shared passion for music and rhythm combined with their natural joyous charm and lighting quick wit. A Mighty Long Way: My Journey to Justice at Little Rock Central High School
Sunday, Feb. 25, 2 p.m.

A key protagonist in one of the most gripping watershed moments of the Civil Rights Movement, Carlotta LaNier delivers powerful keynotes that reflect on history while inspiring hope for the future. In her lectures LaNier revisits the journey of the “Little Rock Nine” who led the nation on a turbulent path that challenged prevailing attitudes, broke down barriers, and forever changed the landscape of America.
