McLean Community Center Calendar of Events for March 2024

McLean, Va. The McLean Community Center (MCC) offers the following activities in March 2024. Please check the center’s website, mcleancenter.org, for up-to-date information. Residents of the center’s tax district, Small District 1A-Dranesville, are eligible for discounts on fees. The center is located at 1234 Ingleside Ave.

Chamber Music Series
Mezzo-Soprano Kristee Haney
Sunday, March 3, 2 p.m.
$10/$7 seniors/$5 MCC district residents
Thanks to a voice praised as “darkly seductive” with a “smooth, rich tone,” Mezzo-Soprano Kristee Haney recently joined the roster of the Metropolitan Opera. Her genre, adventurous and versatile repertoire, encompasses everything from core baroque and romantic roles to cutting edge contemporary operas to jazz standards and musical theater.

Foreign Language Film
“Tales of the Night”
(France; Directed Michel Ocelot) Shown in French with English subtitles.
Thursday, March 7, 1 p.m. and
Wednesday, March 20, 6:30 p.m.
“Tales of the Night” weaves together six exotic fables, each unfolding in a unique locale, from Tibet, to medieval Europe, to the Land of the Dead. This movie is told through gorgeous animation and is appropriate for all ages. Not rated.

The Old Firehouse 5th & 6th Grader Parties
St. Patty’s Party
Friday, March 15, 7-9:30 p.m.
$35/$25 MCC district residents/$10 OFC members
Old Firehouse 5th & 6th grader parties are themed and decorated accordingly. Free catered food and beverages will be distributed to participants. Parties feature a DJ, an open dance floor and a variety of activities.

The Many Disguises of Robin Hood” By Brian Guehring
Saturday and Sunday, March 16 & 17, at 2 p.m.
$10/$7 seniors/$5 MCC tax district residents
In merry ol’ England, the townspeople are overtaxed and unfulfilled. Lucky for them, the mysterious outlaw, Robin Hood, is outsmarting the rich with clever disguises and returning their funds to the poor. Frustrated by these tricks, the sheriff, his daughter, and the prince scheme to capture Robin Hood and maintain control of the taxes. Are Robin Hood and the band of outlaws ready for their riskiest deceit yet? Produced by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company, Inc., of Woodstock, Illinois.

MCC Governing Board Meeting
Monthly Meeting + Public Hearing on FY2026 Programs
Wednesday, March 20, 6:30 p.m.
All Governing Board meetings are open to the public.
The meeting will begin with the Public Hearing on FY2026 Programs. District residents are encouraged to attend the hearing to share their ideas and suggestions. They can also submit their comments by mail or email. The hearing will be followed by the Board's monthly meeting. Tax district residents (Small District One A-Dranesville) who wish to speak during the “Citizen Comment” portion of the meeting are asked to call the Center at 703-790-0123, TTY: 711, to be placed on the agenda. Washington Capitals Game
Friday, March 22, 4-10 p.m.
$70/$60 MCC district residents
Join OFC as they cheer on the Washington Capitals for a ‘W’! As if watching the game weren’t exciting enough, each participant also will receive a free Caps hat! Admission and dinner are included in the fee. Bring additional funds to purchase souvenirs and/or snacks as desired.

Special Events
Fiesta Del Sol: Latin American & Caribbean Festival
Saturday, March 23, 5–10 p.m.
Free admission. Drink and food tickets sold onsite. Patrons must be 21 years old or older to purchase alcoholic beverages.
Ready to salsa? Fiesta del Sol is back! Enjoy the tastes and sounds of Latin America and the Caribbean right here in McLean with live bands, quality artisan exhibitors, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and sumptuous food. Learn how to dance the salsa, meringue or bachata from the best of dance instructors throughout the evening.

Nerf Battlezone
Monday, March 25, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
$70/$60 MCC district residents
Join OFC and battle through different courses using Nerf guns at Maryland’s first indoor Nerf arena. Admission and lunch are provided. Bring additional funds as desired.

Great Wolf Lodge
Tuesday, March 26, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
$80/$70 MCC district residents
Let’s go swimming! Join OFC as they head to the new Great Wolf Lodge in Maryland. What’s better than going down water slides or relaxing in a lazy river/wave pool? Water park admission is included in the fee. Bring at least $20 dollars for lunch, towels and dry clothes for the ride home. Bring additional funds for snacks and/or souvenirs as desired.

Dave & Buster’s
Wednesday, March 27, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
$70/$60 MCC district residents
Eat, drink and play games! Dave and Buster’s is one of the best dining and entertainment attractions around. Buffet lunch and a $35 game card with unlimited arcade game play are included in the fee. Bring funds for additional ticket games as desired.

Senior in Action Program in Partnership with Marymount University
“Saving Claire” Documentary
Wednesday, March 27, 11 a.m.–noon
Free; no registration required.
“Saving Claire” is an innovative new tool for fall prevention which tells the story of denying gravity.  "Saving Claire" works. It is tested, repeatable, and a scalable model. There will be a panel discussion following the documentary viewing.

Healthy Fun One
Thursday, March 28, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
$70/$60 MCC district residents
Come with OFC to visit Potomac Mills latest indoor adventure park: Healthy Fun One! Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy trampolines, a ninja warrior course, jump slide and more! Following the adventure park, we’ll head to a local hibachi restaurant. Fee includes admission and lunch.

“The Tales of Beatrix Potter”
Thursday, March 28, 1 p.m.
Special Spring Break Film! With dancers of The Royal Ballet. This live-action film adapts the animal stories of Beatrix Potter into a full-fledged ballet performance danced by various stars of the Royal Ballet. An ideal film for both children and adults. Rated G.

Beat the Bomb
Friday, March 29, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
$70/$60 MCC district residents
Come step into real-life video games with us at Beat the Bomb! Teams will be suited up in hazmat gear, then they’ll dodge lasers and crack codes to gain time to disarm the (paint) bomb— or get blasted! Admission and lunch included in the fee.

Spring Fest
Saturday, March 30, 10 a.m.-noon
Free Admission
Join your neighbors as we celebrate the changing of seasons with self-guided arts and crafts, entertainment and the opportunity for your children to get a photo with Bunny. Bring your camera and smartphone for photos! An MCC staff member will be on hand to take a photo of you and your family.
