McLean Community Center Calendar of Events for September 2023

McLean, Va. The McLean Community Center (MCC) offers the following activities in September 2023. Please check the center’s website, mcleancenter.org, for up-to-date information. Residents of the center’s tax district, Small District 1A-Dranesville, are eligible for discounts on fees. The center is located at 1234 Ingleside Ave.

MCC Governing Board
Finance Committee Meeting of the Whole on MCC’s FY2025 Budget
Wednesday, Sept. 6, 6:30 p.m.
All meetings are open to the public.
The McLean Community Center (MCC) Governing Board invites residents of Dranesville Small District 1A, who pay a real estate surcharge to support the center, to the Finance Committee Meeting of the Whole, the first of two meetings to discuss and construct the center’s FY2025 budget. American Red Cross Blood Drive
Thursday, Sept. 7, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
It is urgent for donors of all ethnicities to support patients in need! Join us and support the community with your lifesaving blood donation. Old Firehouse Family Event
Snack & Paint Night
Friday, Sept. 8, 7-9 p.m.
$15/$10 MCC district residents. Preregistration is recommended.
Whether you are a beginner or an expert, love snacks or just want to get your hands dirty with some paint, come on down to the Old Firehouse Center for Snack & Paint Night. Led by a professional art teacher, families will create their own masterpieces while having tons of fun. All materials and snacks are included in the fee.

Fall Community Parking Lot Sale
Saturday, Sept. 16, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Rain Date: Sunday, Sept. 17, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Find bargains and treasures at this outdoor community parking lot sale with 70+ community resident vendors selling household items. The area’s first, biggest and best sales of the fall season, it offers a wide variety of gently used household goods, electronics, furniture, clothes, appliances and other items. The Kids’ Corner is a special area of the sale where children ages five to 15 can use their math and entrepreneurial skills while selling toys, clothes, games and other items.

2023-2024 Company Auditions
Open Auditions: Sept. 26 & 27, 7–9 p.m.
Call Backs/Interviews: Sept. 28, 7 p.m.
(the) Unruly Theatre Project (UTP), The Alden in McLean’s professional teen improv company, is dedicated to bringing comedic performances to the community. Members audition to be in the company for one season and are paid for each performance or workshop that they do. Open Auditions for UTP’s 2023-24 Season are being held at MCC from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 26 and 27.  High school students enrolled in 9th through 12th grades are welcome to audition. A prepared monologue is not needed; headshots and resumes are not required but are welcome. For more information, visit aldentheatre.org.

MCC Governing Board Meeting + Public Hearing on FY2025 Budget
Wednesday, Sept. 27, 6:30 p.m.
MCC Governing Board invites residents of Dranesville Small District 1A, who pay a real estate surcharge to support the center, to the FY2025 Budget Public Hearing. The hearing will be held in person at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at the center. This hearing gives residents an opportunity to review and comment on the center’s budget proposal. District residents who wish to speak at the hearing are asked to call 703-790-0123, TTY:711, to have their names placed on a speakers list. Those who cannot attend the hearing can send written comments by mail (address to: McLean Community Center, 1234 Ingleside Ave., McLean VA 22101) or email to MCC Executive Director Elizabeth May-Salazar at feedback@mcleancenter.org.
